The Astros beat the Oakland Athletics 10-5 in their sixth consecutive playoff game on the road to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series with Game 2 tomorrow afternoon.
Oakland got out to a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning against starting pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. In the 4th inning, the Astros tied it up, 3-3, with a solo home run by Alex Bregman and then a two-run bomb by Carlos Correa.
Oakland took back the lead, 4-3, in the 4th with a home run by Matt Olson but the Astros mounted a comeback in the 6th inning, scoring four runs of hits by Jose Altuve, George Springer, and Michael Brantley.
Carlos Correa added a solo home run in the 7th inning and drove in Alex Bregman in the 9th, giving the Astros the lead, 9-5. Yuli Gurriel then hit a sacrifice fly driving in Kyle Tucker, extending the Astros’ lead 10-5.
Ryan Pressly was called in to close the game with catcher Martin Maldonado catching two pop-ups and Pressly striking out the next batter to end the game.
Due to the pandemic, each game of the series is being played at one location: Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium.
