Inspired by fellow Houstonians helping in prior years, Bregman & Howard joined the Houston Food Bank this morning at a SE Houston distribution event serving enough food to feed nearly 500 families for a week.
Bregman and Howard have volunteered before by packaging meals but said they wanted to make a face-to-face connection with the people. Typically, around 75 volunteers work to distribute the packages, but social distancing requirements have forced organizers to reduce that number.
I love how Houston is rallying and helping each other. I wanna do the same.
Bregman and Howard have donated $100,000 during the pandemic and have raised over $1 million for the Houston Food Bank. The couple has also donated their time. Last week they volunteered at the Houston Food Bank to pack food into boxes. On Saturday they get to see where that food goes.
It’s really awesome and great to give back. He and I are super passionate about it, so we really enjoy, especially, to come here and see it in action.
About 500 families went home with food, including fresh produce and nutrition boxes for children. Families will be given enough food to feed children for a week, according to Amy Ragan, chief development officer with the Houston Food Bank. She said the food bank has been distributing 150 percent more meals than what they normally do due to the pandemic.
